Xfinity

Xfinity

Cable · 300–1,000 Mbps

Xfinity is the consumer brand of Comcast and runs one of the largest cable broadband networks in the United States. Its current residential tiers are sold with a rate that is held for five years rather than a twelve-month introductory price, and the advertised figures assume autopay from a bank account together with paperless billing. Plans carry unlimited data and no term contract.

Xfinity: common questions

Does Xfinity require a contract?

No. The current internet plans are sold without a term commitment, so there is no early-termination fee if you cancel. The five-year price guarantee is a cap on the rate, not an obligation to stay.

What does the five-year price guarantee actually cover?

It holds the monthly rate for the internet plan itself for five years from sign-up. Taxes, fees and any extras you add are outside that figure, and the rate can move once the five years are up.

Why is my quoted price higher than the advertised one?

The published rates assume autopay drawn from a stored bank account plus paperless billing. Paying by card or by paper bill removes that discount. Pricing and the exact speed tiers on offer also vary from one market to another, so always check the quote for your own address.

Is there a data cap?

The current residential plans include unlimited data. Older Xfinity plans applied a monthly allowance with overage charges, so if you are on a legacy plan it is worth confirming which terms you are under.

Do I have to rent the equipment?

Xfinity supplies a gateway with these plans, and a compatible modem and router you own yourself can also be used on the network. Whether a rental line appears on the bill depends on the plan and market, so check the order summary before you confirm.

Strengths and trade-offs

What they do well

  • The advertised rate is held for five years rather than twelve months
  • No term contract — the service can be cancelled at any time
  • Unlimited data on the current residential tiers
  • Wide availability across a large part of the country

Worth knowing

  • The advertised price depends on autopay from a bank account and paperless billing
  • Download and upload speeds are not symmetrical, as they are on fiber
  • Exact tiers and pricing differ by market, so the published rate may not be the one at your address
  • The rate rises once the five-year guarantee ends

About this data: Coverage and speed figures come from the FCC National Broadband Map, as of December 2025, where providers self-report. Advertised speeds are maximums, not guarantees, and availability differs address by address. The FCC publishes no pricing at all, so every price here was taken from a rate the provider advertised publicly, last checked September 2026. Several providers quote only after an address check, and rates move constantly — treat these as a guide and confirm the figure for your own address before you order.
