1.Our commitment
Comparing home services is something everyone has to do, and an inaccessible comparison site simply excludes people from a decision that affects their household budget. We treat accessibility as part of building the site properly rather than as an afterthought.
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That is the standard most commonly referenced in US accessibility requirements, and it is what we measure ourselves against.
2.What we have built in
Specific measures currently in place across the site:
- A "skip to content" link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Semantic HTML — real headings in order, real lists, real tables with header cells, and landmark regions.
- Full keyboard operability. Menus, the mobile drawer and every FAQ can be opened, used and closed without a mouse.
- Visible focus indicators on every interactive element, never removed.
- Text and interface colours chosen to meet the AA contrast ratio against their backgrounds.
- Form fields with permanently associated labels, and errors described in text rather than by colour alone.
- FAQ answers built with native disclosure elements, so they remain reachable if JavaScript fails.
- All motion — scroll animations, transitions, the logo float — disabled automatically when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Layouts that reflow to 320px without horizontal scrolling, and that tolerate text being enlarged.
- Decorative images hidden from assistive technology; meaningful ones given text alternatives.
3.Known limitations
We would rather name the gaps than claim perfection.
- Wide comparison tables scroll horizontally within their own container on small screens. The scroll is keyboard-reachable, but a wide table is inherently harder to read on a phone.
- Some content is supplied by third parties — provider names and, in future, provider logos — and we do not control how it is authored.
- Pages linked from here to provider websites are outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
We work through these as we find them, and reports from people using the site are the most useful source we have.
4.Alternatives to using the site
If any part of this site does not work for you, our concierge team can do the whole comparison with you over the phone and place an order on your behalf. That service is free, staffed seven days a week, and is not a lesser version of the site — it is how a lot of people prefer to do this anyway.
5.Reporting a problem
If you hit a barrier, please tell us. Describe the page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you were using. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two business days and to fix confirmed issues as a priority.
