Spectrum is the residential brand of Charter Communications and sells cable internet across a large multi-state footprint. Plans are priced as a first-year rate that reverts to the standard rate afterwards, and none of them carry a term contract or a monthly data allowance. A modem is included in the price; the Advanced WiFi router is bundled on the faster tiers and sold as a monthly add-on on the cheaper ones.

Spectrum: common questions
What happens to the price after the first year?
The advertised figure is a twelve-month rate. At the end of that period the plan moves to Spectrum standard pricing, which is higher, and the exact standard rate depends on the plan and your area.
Is a contract required?
No. Spectrum internet plans have no term commitment and no early-termination fee, so you can leave once the promotional year ends if the standard rate does not suit you.
Do I have to pay for the router?
A modem comes with every plan at no extra charge. Advanced WiFi — the router service — is included on the gigabit tier but is a $10 monthly add-on on Internet Advantage and Internet Premier, so factor that in when comparing the entry price.
Are there data caps or overage charges?
No. Spectrum does not apply a monthly data allowance to residential internet, so there is no overage charge for heavy use.
Which speeds can I actually get?
That depends on your address. The 100, 500 and 1,000 Mbps tiers are the common ones, while the 2 Gig tier is limited to selected areas. Upload speeds are well below download speeds on all of them, which is normal for cable.
