Mediacom

Cable · 300–5,000 Mbps

Mediacom delivers internet over a fiber-fed coaxial network, with download speeds from 300 Mbps to 5,000 Mbps. Rather than the usual twelve-month introductory rate, each plan comes with a multi-year price lock — two years on the entry tier and up to five years on 5 Gig. Every plan includes the modem and eero Wi-Fi equipment in the monthly price and carries no annual contract.

Mediacom: common questions

Does Mediacom require a contract?

No. Mediacom sells its internet plans without an annual contract, and service can be cancelled on seven days' notice. The multi-year price lock is a pricing guarantee rather than a commitment that binds you to stay.

How long does the advertised price last?

It depends on the tier: Internet 300 is locked for two years, Internet 1 Gig and Internet 2 Gig for three years, and Internet 5 Gig for five years. Once the lock runs out, standard rates apply.

Does Mediacom cap data?

No. Mediacom advertises unlimited usage with no data cap. There is a separate upstream provision — sending more than 1 TB in a month can lead to reduced upload speed for the remainder of that month.

What do the modem and router cost?

Nothing extra. The advertised price includes the modem along with eero Wi-Fi hardware, and the higher tiers include two eero units. Additional access points are charged separately.

What are the upload speeds?

Internet 300 is rated at up to 20 Mbps upload, Internet 1 Gig and Internet 2 Gig at up to 50 Mbps, and Internet 5 Gig at up to 1,000 Mbps. Only the 5 Gig tier comes close to symmetrical service.

What are the up-front charges?

Self-installation is free; a technician visit is $75. A one-time $25 activation fee applies either way, so budget for that even if you install the equipment yourself.

Strengths and trade-offs

What they do well

  • Price locks run two to five years, far longer than a typical promotional period
  • Modem and eero Wi-Fi hardware included at no extra monthly charge
  • No annual contract and no data cap
  • Upload speeds are published for every tier, up to 1,000 Mbps on 5 Gig
  • Self-installation is free

Worth knowing

  • Upload speeds on the cable tiers are low relative to download — 20 Mbps on Internet 300
  • Advertised rates include a $10 autopay and paperless billing discount
  • A $25 activation fee applies, and professional installation is $75
  • Upload speed may be reduced for the rest of the month after 1 TB of upstream use
  • Standard rates apply once the price lock expires

About this data: Coverage and speed figures come from the FCC National Broadband Map, as of December 2025, where providers self-report. Advertised speeds are maximums, not guarantees, and availability differs address by address. The FCC publishes no pricing at all, so every price here was taken from a rate the provider advertised publicly, last checked September 2026. Several providers quote only after an address check, and rates move constantly — treat these as a guide and confirm the figure for your own address before you order.
